There is no way the Windows 9x driver can be made to work on Windows XP.
Plan A
Delete any and all driver for the printer using the facilities of Start
Printers and Faxes highlight printer Delete printer.
Download the Windows XP drivers from
www.epson.com and install those
according to the instructions. Do _not_ connect the printer to the computer
until told to do so by the instructions.

Plan B
XP has a driver for this printer on the distribution CD.
Delete any and all driver for the printer using the facilities of Start
Printers and Faxes highlight printer Delete printer.
If the printer connects by USB cable:
With Windows running, power the printer on. Put the Win XP CD in the cd
drive.Connect the USB cable. XP should install the driver.
If the printer connects by parallel cable:
Shut windows and the computer off in the usual way. Connect the cable to the
printer and computer. verify that the connections are snug but not
over-tight. Turn the printer on. Start the computer and Windows. Put the
Windows XP CD in the CD drive. Windows should detect the printer and install
the driver.
