Printer DPI reduced by Windows XP (from 600 to 300)

Have a Xerox Docuprint P12 which has worked fine until I
installed XP. Printer won't print full page due to
reduction of DPI setting. When I go into preferences for
printer, the maximum DPI's shown is 300 . . . the printer
is a 600dpi laser printer. How do I override the XP
setting for my printer?

Unfortunately this is such an old unit, designed for Windows 3.0 that there
are no 2000 and XP drivers other than those provided by Microsoft. Xerox
decided it wasn't economical to continue support for this unit.

Either live with it or think about replacing it.
