printer and file sharing

I cannot access a printer connected to one PC (let's call
it PCX) from Limited accounts on other PCs in workgroup
(even though printer sharing is setup) but I can from
Administrator accounts. Also cannot access Shared
Documents folder on that same PCX from other PCs unless
logged on the other PCs as administrator.

When I go thru the Add Printer Wizard and select the
printer attached to PCX, a window opens asking for user
name and password (but printer sharing is open to
everyone, I thought). When I try to access the Shared
Documents folder on PCX from other PCs, I get an error
msg that "PCX is not accessible. You may not have
permission to use this network resource...Logon failure:
the user has not been granted the requested logon type at
his computer". Again, this only occurs when trying to
access PCX from another PC with a Limited account.

Other PCs & PCX can access other PC's shared files and printers with no
problem.

Thanks.

The question would be if you ever have been able to print
using that PC. If so, the second question is if you have
a firewall installed on the PC. If so, try to deactivate
it and see if that doesn't fix the problem. If it does,
you need to find another firewall program for the PC or
determine if a firewall is necessary at all.

I can print to the printer connected to that PC when logged on as
Administrator on other PCs. All our PCs are connected to a router/firewall,
but there is no firewall software on any individual PC

Thanks.

So, you've never been able to print to that networked
printer from the PC you use? Is it a new network
printer - or is your PC new? Is your PC a laptop by
chance?

If that printer is operated by the PC that has the
firewall on it, that's probably the problem. I had
similar problems not long ago and was pulling my hair out
over it. Once I disabled the firewall (Norton) on the
box servicing the router, it worked.

There is no firewall on the PC.

It's a new printer but not a networked printer. It's an HP1012 that's
plugged into a PC that's setup to share the printer. I don't think it's just
a print issue though since I also cannot access Shared Documents folder on
this particular PC unless I'm accessing it from an Administrator account.
