Printed characters differ to keyboard

How can I map keyboard characters in Win2000? e.g. to get
the @ sign we have to press Shift-2, etc, and cannot find
the pound sterling symbol anywhere!

I would like to map the symbols to the correct keys, if
possible.

Control Panel->Keyboard->Input Locales

If this doesn't do what you want, use the Power Toys keyboard remapper:

The Power Toys are for Windows 95, but seem to work fine with all Windows
95-XP.
