Printable CD-R's

Several years ago, I bought a pack of 100 CD-R's. They are now about all
used up so I went to the store to buy some more. I noticed there were
things called Printable CD-R's. I didn't buy them but bought the plain
vanilla ones since I don't have and don't plan to buy a CD-R Printer.
However, I do wonder if the printable ones are suitable for archiving data.
It seems to be conventional wisdom that CD-RW's should not be used for
archiving data. Is this true also for the printable ones?

Thank you.

The only difference between "regular" CDs and "printable" CDs is that
the top surface of the latter has a matte finish that will accept ink.
The disk body, dye layer, and reflective layer are what will determine
the suitability of the CD for any particular burner or purpose so buy a
good brand and all should be well. As for your last question, are you
referring to printable CD-Rs or CD-RWs? Personally I wouldn't use RW
media (printable or not) for that purpose and given the price of
one-time media I doubt that many people do.
