Print Spooler Problem

L

Lanny Bender

My desktop PC is an Intel Pentium 4, 2000MHz with 256 MB of RDRAM. I'm
running XP Pro, SP-1.

I had these printers & respective drivers on my system:
Brother HL-5040 Series.... Printer
Epson Stylus C40 Series.....Printer
BCL easyPDF ...... Driver
MightyFax Printer... Driver
They no longer appear in the Printer & Faxes Folder, ever since I started
getting a Spooler SubSystem App Error message to whit:

"Spooler SubSystem App has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience. etc. etc."

I've been reporting this to Microsoft, via the error report upload process,
numerous times.

I suspect that it was something I did while in the Command function. Right
before the error message started to appear, I performed:
"Start | Run | cmd";
Then I executed the following DOS command: "tasklist /SVC", sans quotes.
I wanted to see how many times "Svchost.exe" was running; and what services
were being executed under "Svchost.exe".

I think that here is where I screwed the pooch. I re-entered "tasklist
/SVC" and this time I tried re-directing it to LPT1. My command now looked
like this: "tasklist /SVC > lpt1".

When that didn't work, I tried: "tasklist /SVC > prn". Then I realized that
re-direction required a document name, and typed: "tasklist /SVC >
tasklist.txt".

I then exited the"cmd" operation. About a half-hour later I started getting
the "Spooler SubSystem App Error" message.

I've tried the "Restore" operation to yesterday's "Restore Point"; but I
still get the "Spooler SubSystem App Error" message .

I called Gateway; and they directed me to a printer manufacturer. I tried
calling Epson Tech Support. They gave up when the new printer driver didn't
work.

Please HELP!
