Preventing a particular eventid from being logged...

Brad Pears

I am getting an eventid:35 source : i8042prt on our NT 4.0 service pack 6
machine. I am getting about one every 6 seeconds so it quickly flooded the
system log. After some research and testing it appears that the issue is
related toi the 8 port KVM switch we are using to run our servers. None of
the other machines are getting any sort of event like this. I tried
different ports cables etc.. all to no avail. The only way to stop it was to
set up a separate mouse for this server... (which defeats the purpose of the
switch) I am going to attempt to contact the switch manufacturer for a
firmware upgrade but I doubt I'll have any luck. The switch was purchased
off ebay and had been working well...

Question: Is there a way in NT 4.0 that I can prevent these particular
events from being logged in teh system log at all? It is not causing an
issue and this server is simply a file server - nothing else.

Your help would be most appreciated!

Thanks, Brad

There isn't a way to do that. You may need a new kvm switch.

If I recall correctly [been a while since NT] you can create a filtered view
of the event viewer logs so this message would be excluded. It will still
happen but you won't be viewing it.
