I create powerpoint presentations that go along with our training manuals. We
sell the manuals separately from the powerpoint presentation. However, it is
possible that someone could "cheat" and just print and distribute the
powerpoint instead of purchasing the manuals. Is there a way to prevent a
user from printing a powerpoint presentation?

since Powerpoint 2002 you can protect the presentation with a password from
being read - but not print. As soon as the user can open and read the
presentation, he can print it as well.

You can save as PPS, that is the Powerpoint-Show. The presentation will open
as a slideshow and not in normal view. But every silled user of PPT knows
how to open a PPS on normal view.

You can produce a PDF-File (with a 3rd-party software). Good PDF-Makers
allow the setting "no print".

Here's how!
Place a filled rectangle over the first slide with the text "printing
disabled" and give it an exit animation of disappear "with previous". Copy
and paste it onto all slides (this can be automated with vba if needed)

Now add a password to modify and save as > save as type powerpoint show .pps

If you use flash, it will be more secure for for it prevents your
presentation from being copied and printed at will.

Actually, a PowerPoint can be converted to flash for the security
reason, at this same time, retaining viewing access.
