PPT link to Excel files/graphs -- update with disabling macros

I have seen many good notes in the discussion group on PPT links to Excel,
but am having trouble with the following.

I have one PPT with about 25 links to Excel files/graphs, each with their
own macros. When I update the links, each file is asking me to "Enable or
Disable" the macros. I have to do this 25 times. :-(

Is there an easy way to make a setting or macro to force an update and
automatically disable the macros?

Try changing your security settings in Excel to Low.

Thanks for the recommendation. Unfortunately, lowering the security would
_enable_ the macros. Is there a method to _disable_ the macros while updating
the links?

Thanks!

Just for grins, try setting security to
SuperMegaHyperDuperGuyWithAK47AtDoorBlockingTheWay or whatever it's called.

That may *silently* prevent the macros from running.

I don't know that there's any way to kick this in only while links are updating
and not for general Excel use, though. If it were that simple to do, it'd be
equally simple for bad guys to turn the security to low and have their way with
your PCs.

Do you have any advice where to make the change? All I know to change is
"Very High" all the way to "Low", which has to be done in Excel.

That's the one.

Thanks. This works in LOW, but I am back in square 1. :-(

The problem at root is that PPT will open each XLS file once for each link in the
presentation when it updates.

It's up to Excel at that point to determine whether there are macros in the
presentation and if so, whether they're to be permitted to run (or whether it should
ask the user if it's ok).

You may want to ask about this in one of the Excel groups; perhaps there's a
"trusted" directory where you can store the files so as not to have it bellow at you
all the time.
