PPT 2003 and video

I am trying to import video into my PPT and have had nothing but trouble. I
understand the linking system and put the video in my folder first and then
import it to PPT. I am getting some codec error message and it seems not to
matter what format I am importing (avi, mpeg) but it will not play. I have
already checked and double checked the animations to play video on click...
any help?

It must have been an oversight - - you forgot to tell us the exact and full
wording of the error message.

Sorry, the exact error message I am receiving is:
unknown error occurred in MPEG Codec

Now after the video will not play it crashes PPT and closes the program.

I did print the error report and it also says:
A MPEG video does not play, and you may receive an error message in the
Mciqtz32.dll module in PowerPoint 2003 (897158)

I hope this additional info helps, thanks for the reply

MPEG2's require an additional codec to be installed in order to play; the
AVIs should play though, but you also might be missing a codec for that too.
Can you get these videos to play in Windows Media Player?

I'm sure someone else on this board will have more technical suggestions
regarding codecs, but I'll throw this out:

I once had an awful time getting movies to play and the problem was my
company's server. I have no idea why, but the movies refused to play off of
the server. Once I dragged them to my desktop and played them from there, no
problem.

Than you for the link. Unfortunately, I have downloaded the essential
programs and now after trying to import through PFCMedia I have gotten a
message that either the data is corrupt or there is a DMP (?) attached to it
not allowing PFC the right to import the video. All of this video is mine and
not copyrighted. Is there a setting on the video that I can change to allow
PFC to import it?

Thank yo for your response. Can you direct me to where I would obtain the
codec's needed for MPEG and AVI video play in PPT 2003?

Can you be specific about where the video came from and how it was made? I
ask as there are only two possible ways to recieve that error. One is of
course DRM in the content, the other being corrupted data in the content.
I'll asume for the moment that DRM is not the issue.

Many of the video capture and editing software programs add it's own
proprietary information to video files and niether the Windows Media Player
nor the MCI player can deal with it. I would strt with the creation of the
video and wrof forward from there.
