Powerpoint problem when opening documents created before 2000

I am trying to access older Word or PowerPoint documents in Office 2003 and
can't?

It appears the original Office 2003 and 2007 will not open older documents
that have Office 2000 Clip Art in them.

What updates or fixes are there for this?

The error message first displayed is "unable to open files of this file
type" and then when opening the error box "The selected file does not appear
to be a valid Microsoft Office PowerPoint file. It might be another kind of
Microsoft Office System file or a file created by using a different program."
This appears to be rubbish as there are a number of files I am unable to open
all created before 2000?

Also says "file may be corrupted" which I also think is incorrect as I have
a number and many backups of them which all come up with the same message
when I try and open in 2007?

Any more ideas? It feels like a version problem from versions before 2000 to
2007?
