Powerpoint 97 shows blank pages from PP2003 presentations

Andrew B.

My home-office has PP97 on a PC and a laptop. Both have worked fine for
years and currently run WinXP home. Now we have a problem because one of
our contractors has bought a new PC with PP2003 installed. When he sends us
presentations we can open them but the pages are either entirely blank (ie
they show the "type text here" wording) or sometimes they are partially
blank - on one long presentation he sent us we could see the section divider
pages perfectly but the intermediate pages were blank as if unedited. He
sent the presentations in various formats, compressed and uncompressed, but
the result was always the same.

I've spent HOURS searching for the answer but can't find out. Please
help!!!

Thanks

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello Andrew,

If it was a problem with how the PowerPoint 97 and PowerPoint 2000
presentations looked when opened up on the system running PowerPoint 2003 I
would say that it was a good candidate for installing the Office 2003
Critical Update ( Help -> Check for Updates).

Hi Andrew,

ignore my other post, I hit a key too quick ... ;-(

Have him disable the new features of PowerPoint 2003 in "Tools | Options |
Edit" (the last three items). See, whether a presentation created this way
can be viewed on your computers.

Another possibility: Does he use animations to make text or objects move
into the slide? Many of the animations introduced in PowerPoint 2002 cannot
be viewed in older versions. (For a detailed overview see: Animation
features: 2002 vs. 2000: http://www.echosvoice.com/gotchas.htm) But
usually, the text or objects should appear and be visible. To test this,
have him send you a presentation without any animations .

BTW: Updating your system to PPT 2002 or 2003 wouldn't be a bad idea - the
new versions have a lot of nice features!

Kind regards,
Ute
