powering off when shutting down

is there some kind of switch in winxp to turn off the power instead of
getting the message "it is now safe to turrn off your computer"? i was given
an old dell optiplex, loaded xp, and it won't power off when shutting down.

Open Power Options in the Control Panel and go to the APM tab. Choose
the option to enable APM and reboot.

hmmm. don't see an APM tab. i have Power Schemes, Advanced, Hibernate, UPS.

Then you may want to read some of the powerdown issues at

additional things you can try.
