Power Schemes and 'Out of Range' monitor message

Hoping someone has a bright idea on this one.

The school has recently updated the computers in one of its suites with HP
DC5800 SFF desktops (running XP SP3) with existing 15" Di-Fusion LCD
monitors. In Control Panel -> Power Options -> Power Schemes, the 'Turn off
monitor' option is set to 20 minutes. When the monitor has been switched off
after that time and the mouse is moved or a key is pressed, the monitor
displays the message "Attention. Input signal is out of range. Please
change signal timing." The only way to restore the display is either
disconnect and reconnect the power cable on the monitor or reboot the
computer.

But here's the problem. I've tried the computer with other LCD monitors and
they restore the display correctly. I've tried the monitor with other
computers and the display is restored correctly. So where is the problem
between the Di-Fusion monitor and the HP DC5800? I have tried the following
with no success:

1. Installing the latest graphics drivers (Intel Q33 Express Integrated)
2. Updating to the latest BIOS (and cannot find any BIOS settings that may
be relevant)
3. Rolling back from XP SP3 to SP2

Many thanks in anticipation

I've seen something similar to this before. The first thing to try is
setting the display format to a different, but otherwise valid (for the
monitor) display format. Now set it back to the format the monitor native
format. Reboot the PC. Does this solve the problem? If not, what happens
if you allow the monitor to turn off using an alternate (but valid) display
size?

Report back please.

I tried switching to a different resolution, switching back to the native
resolution and rebooting. This didn't work.

The only options I have for resolution and colour quality are 800x600 (16
and 32 bit) and 1024x768 (16 and 32 bit). The display will recover in 800x600
in both 16 bit and 32 bit but will not recover in 1024x768 in both 16 bit and
32 bit.

Strange indeed. One further question: did you install a monitor driver (if
one was provided)? I note you updated the graphics driver, but the monitor
requires a driver as well. XP tends to often install a generic driver. If
no driver was provided, check on the manufacturer's web site to see if one
is available. Never use a monitor specific driver provided by Microsoft.
