Power on problems

N

Nigel Molesworth

Sometimes, after my PC has been asleep for a while, I have a problem
turning it back on. The power comes on, the fan starts, but then it
goes off again after a few seconds. This cycle repeats until I do a
full power-down, a reset does not work.

Any thoughts?

When you say full power-down, are you saying that you turn off the computer
at the power supply.

Yes, it's to only way I can get it to boot.

Any answer at this point is only wild speculation. Nothing can be
determined without a 3.5 digit multimeter. A two minute procedure is

In your case, especially important are voltages on purple, gray, and
green wires when system does and when it does not start. Those
voltages before pressing the power button AND as power button is
pressed. Elicit more useful replies by posting those numbers.
