power off computer

I recently uninstalled macafee to load a different virus center after that my
computer will not shut down. I click on Shut down and windows xp saves my
settings and shuts down, but my computer stays on and I have to shut down via
the power button. I was told to uninstall all ACPI entries in my system
devices. I am not comfortable doing that unless I know it is definetly ok to
do so. Has anyone evEr run into this problem? Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks. P. S. I have gone into msconfig and unchecked
everything in my startup folder, that didn't work. I am running win XP.
aLSO i HAVE GONE INTO POWER MANAGEMENT AND PUT EVERYTHING TO NEVER AS FAR AS
SHUT DOWN. i HAVE NO apm TAB IN THE POWER OPTIONS IN CONTROL PANEL.
