When I press shift and 3 on my keyboard, I get a hash

You need to go into control panel and set your region & language to the one
you want to use.
Regional & Language Settings>Languages>input language details

Probably because she's in the United Kingdom and/or using an English
(UK) keyboard!

Please respond to the Newsgroup, so that others may benefit from the exchange.

Hi

Go to Control Panel>Regional and Language Options. Make sure that all menus
and submenus on all three tabs are set to the same option - English (United
Kingdom)
