Possible java problem

I am having a problem accessing certain websites ( windows update is
one). I have run the latest anti-virus and spyware software and the
computer seems to be clean. I can access my mail sites (ie yahoo) and
retrieve my mail, but I'm unable to reply. It appears that only sites
that are running some kind of java on them are affected. Any
suggestions?

Your security setting in IE may be too high. Try Medium setting and check
to see you have "active scripting" enabled > Tools > Internet Options >
Security > see that it is set to Internet and under "security level for this
zone" click "Custom Level" > scroll to scripting section which is very near
the bottom and enable everything under "Scriptin" i.e., Active Scripting -
enable, Allow paste operations via script - enable, Scripting of Java
Applets - enable.
