Java problems with Windows XP

When I try to run a Java application, it comes up and tells me that there
are several Java machines running and can not run the application and that it
can not be loaded. I contacted Sun Micro - they told me to remove the JRE
program with the Window Installer Cleanup program, which I did. It no longer
shows up in the registry of the cleanup program but the Java icon is still
showing in my control panel. When I double click on the Java icon it still
opens up the Java Control Panel. It acts as if the are some hidden versions
of Java on my computer that I am unable to find. Also after I removed the JRE
program with the Windows Install Cleanup program I have went back to the
ADD/REMOVE Program and it does not show up there.
Any ideas on how to resolve my problem - I desperately need my JRE program
to start working again, as I have several applications that I need to run
that require Java.
I am using Windows XP SP2 Ver 5.1.2600 on a Dell Inspiron 5150 and Internet
Explorer 7 Ver: 7.0.5730.11 Update VER:0
I am trying to get Java 6.0 to work because my earlier Ver. of Java crashed.

Shows you where sun micro really is in the pc world, the installer clean-up
utility was released in 2002 or 2003,being 2007,the utility isnt compatable
with
any of the current microsoft OS.....Try going to:http://live.com
(microsoft),type:
Microsoft Java Virtual Machine In the search list(s),get the install with
x86 on it,
once installed,go to windows update catalog,server 2003 web edition,the 1st
download is the update to x86 MJVM
