Possible bad sound card/speakers?

OK, bear with me as I have already posted on the Music
and Performance and Maintenance pages and not gotten a
response - running Windows XP SP1 on an Athlon 2100+
machine, 512 MB RAM, CD-RW drive, DVD Drive, IBM 80 GB
HDD, Creative Labs SoundBlaster Audigy EX Platinum sound
card, Ge Force ti4600 video card, and Klipsch 5.1
speakers. Over last month or so the sound has been
randomly going out on my system from the 5 main channels,
and only the sub-woffer produces a faint echo of what it
should - fix seems to be to power cycle the speakers or
to restart the system. Assuming I have covered the
basics, connectivity, virus and trojan horse detection,
hardware conflicts, processor utilization, etc. Could
this indicate a hardware problem with the sound card or
speakers?? In the past, when I have had older machines
systems go, it's been my experience that when the
speakers break - they break - ditto for the sound
controller... Please Help!

Hi Beau,

If you have access to another set of speakers, try them. That should help
narrow down the possibilities.
