Popup windows don't work

Am not sure how exactly this happened, but for a number of months now I've
been having issues with pop up windows - whether I have popup blocker enabled
or disabled, when I allow pop up windows to appear they never work. For
instance, I go to an online virus checker (such as Panda) and try to use
their free online virus checker. All that happens when I click a link is
that I get a blank pop up window that will never load, it just sits. This
happens on about any other site I try to load something in another window on.

Any suggestions to the problem? Am using IE 6.0.29 etc etc, with SP2
installed and all the current critical updates that show up on windows update.

Probably when Windows XP Service Pack 2 was installed.. Please either
UNINSTALL any pop-up blockers on toolbars *OR* turn off internet explorer's
OWN pop-up blocker. There's probably a conflict.

First eliminate any spyware.

CAUTION!!!!! Removing some spyware can damage the Winsock stact. Before
you try to remove spyware using any of these programs , download a copy of
LSP-Fix - a free program to repair damaged Winsock 2 stacks (all Windows
versions) so that the program will be available after removing the spyware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

I have no other pop up blockers installed, as I don't use IE that much. Also
as I wrote in my initial post, I have tried it both with the popup blocker
turned on and off - thank you for the suggestions though.

Thanks again for the suggestions - I've been using spyware and adaware for a
while, and to no avail. Nothing new comes up in either one (meaning no
spyware at all). I've used Hijack this before and tried to get help with
that, but also nothing. CWShredder came up empty, I don't have any
websearches installed. I did the WinSock repair and just rebooted my
computer, but still have the same problem.

This problem doesn't only occur on Panda or antivirus web scans - for
instance I just went to CNN.Com and clicked on an article. I was supposed to
load a popup ad to display to me, but the add just sits there on a blank
page.
