pop-ups

I have a new Dell Inspiron 5100 and the amount of pop-up
ads that come up when I open explorer is unbelivable, and
even when explorer is not open I get tons of pop-ups.
Does this have to do with explorer or is there another
program that is causing this? This problem well exceeds
the usual advertising that comes with using the
internet. Any advice is appreciated
