OK, I need to restore my computer to factory settings......without CD as the
computer came pre-loaded (I've done it once before without CD but have since
forgotten how). I don't need any help figuring out what is wrong with my
computer, I've spent a couple of months trying to rectify the problem, there
is no solution, I WANT to restore to factory, just gotta try and remember how
I went about it last time.....SOMEONE out here MUST know how to restore an HP
with windows XP to factory default.......a quick and to the point reply would
be most appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you.

You might want to take a look here:

Windows XP

I'm guessing that you're already aware of the fact that you'll
have to backup all your data files before running any sort of
restoration.

If that isn't what you're looking for, you might want to take a
look in the manual that came with your computer.

Good luck

I don't actually WANT anything backed up.......I want everything that wasn't
there when I got the computer to be gone.......I've done it before, it
actually just really comes down to the push of a button but I can't remember
where to find it.

How do you know you have an operating system problem and not some other
software or hardware problem?

Hope this helps.

I am not aware of a button to push that restores to the original
factory settings. If you mean the restore feature of XP, then that
feature is Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools >
Restore.

Btw, Restore will not fix "all" isssues. Nevertheless, good luck.

Did you read that HP article?
Did you read the manual?
What happens when you follow the "Recovering during Startup"
procedure?
Did you start hitting the F10 key repeatedly while your
computer was starting up?
Did you see a menu giving you recovery options?

That article outlines the only way I'm familiar with to install
XP on an HP that didn't come with an installation CD. If that
procedure doesn't work for you, post back with the model number
of your HP.

Also, here are a couple of other articles from the HP support
site
that might be useful:

HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - Obtaining a Recovery CD or DVD set

HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - Creating Recovery CDs and DVDs
Using Recovery Creator Software
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?dlc=en&lc=en&cc=us&docname=bph08097

FYI, when I suggested backing up your files, I was referring to
things like the contents of your My Documents folder, your
email messages, address book, Favorites, etc. If they're not
important to you, fine.

Taken from Hp's site

NOTE: HP PCs that ship with Microsoft Windows XP do not come with
recovery CDs. Instead, they use a hidden space (partition) on the hard
drive to store the recovery information. The use of a hidden partition
provides a convenient process that eliminates the use of recovery
discs that may be lost or scratched. Recovery discs for Windows XP are
available from HP for a minimal cost. Go to the section " Related
support " for ordering information. Your PC may also contain Recovery
Creation software.

As was suggested if you can't get into xp,press f10 repeatedly at
startup to get to recovery menu. You can order a recovery cd from
them, but I would rather have the whole xp OS cd and have the Hdd space
back.
