please insert blank disc in drive e and retry

My cd rw will not recognise that a blank cd-r is in the
drive when i try to burn. cdrw is optorite 4801. when
blank disc is inserted, the light on the cdrw flashes
rapidly. I also got 1 message that said "drive is busy"
This problem started either after an auto update or when
i deleted some registry items using "registry mechanic" i
dont know how to download and instal a new driver (driver
details microsoft 5-1-2535-0) and i am not confident
about opening the tower to unplug the device. device
manager says "this device is working properly".
troubleshoot has not helped.

Registry Mechanic has an "Un-do" feature...

I think the default setting for the registry cleaner in System Mechanic
creates a backup automatically. I've got System Mechanic 3.8a. Launch
System Mechanic, click on the "Clean System Registry" tool, then click on
the "Undo Information" tab. You *should* see your most recent changes
listed there.

If not, there is always the XP System Restore to consider.
