PLEASE HELP!

Okay, this is a pretty complicated situation, at least for me...I have the
normal MSN Messenger 7.5 which works fine, but then I also have the older
version of Windows messenger which I cannot seem to get rid of. I've deleted
it from my installed programs (ie. it doesn't show that it is on my computer
anywhere). However, it keeps popping up on my computer as if I'm online!
There is no main screen, it just pops up if someone tries to message me. I
would really like to get rid of it for good. Any suggestions? Thanks in
advance!!!

Greetings,

As long as you don't mind losing Remote Assistance, Whiteboard or Application Sharing within
MSN Messenger, you can simply uninstall Windows Messenger by clicking the Start button, then
click Run and type in (copy-paste if you like):
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Then click OK.
Messenger will then be uninstalled. For more detailed instructions and screenshots, go to,

Why wouldn't Microsoft implement the same Remote Assistance, Whiteboard and
Application Sharing in the MSN Messenger. Why does these features exist in
Windows Messenger alone?

Hi Vas,

Originally Windows Messenger was intended as the only Messenger client on XP (MSN Messenger
and Windows Messenger were the same thing, and even the same executable). The features in
question are actually part of Windows, and as such were written with the assumption that
Windows Messenger would be present.

Of course this all changed, but these features in Windows expect Windows Messenger to present
to work properly. Indeed even Outlook Express used to have issues when Windows Messenger was
removed (this was fixed in an update, and is part of the XP service packs).
