Okay..i have had my HP computer for over 4 years now and about 1 month
ago my CD ROM started giving me problems. When i put a CD in the
tray, it doesn't read the disc and the red light stays on therefore
not re-opening. I have to restart my computer and open the tray to
get the disc then when i close the tray...the red light stays on and
will not open. Does ANYONE have any suggestions about how i can open
this tray? PLEASE respond!! PLEASE!!!

There should be a tiny hole on the front panel of the CD
drive. Straighten out a paperclip and poke it in th hole.

On many CD-Rom drives, there is an emergency eject button. Look at the
front of the CD-Rom drive. There might be a teeny tiny hole that you can
stick the end of a unfolded paperclip or something similar into. Of course,
once you get the disc out, you still have a problem. Basically, you need a
new CD-Rom drive. -Dave

I can't help but wonder what may have happened to the OP's machine about a
month ago when he claims to have noticed this issue begin....

Was there a firmware flash etc? comes to mind.

This "parrot" may be merely pining or sleeping....

Your CD-ROM has failed. Time to replace it.
