CD ROM drive help please

I have a VOM-12E48X CD ROM drive (CD/DVD rewriter) installed in a
"Tiny" home PC. It has worked fine up to now but has come to a
grinding halt. My knowledge is not huge but I have run a few checks.
The draw open / closes fine but the discs do not "spin" and do not
read at all. When I attempt to writr to a disc I am told there is no
disc present.

My only thoughts are driver issues (???), or its knackered.

If there is a miracle cure it would br great. If not, although the
computer is under warranty I assume it will be easier to buy a new
drive than go through the hassle of sending it back to Tiny ?

If anybody has any ideas i would be very gratefull, if it looks like a
new one then any advice on a decent CD/DVD re writer would be helpful
please.

Thanks in advance for help or pointers to other places

I've never come across a driver issue that prevents a drive spinning up. If
you're certain that is correct then yes, your drive is almost certainly
dead.
Before rushing off and spending money I'd suggest you whip the side off the
case and check that the power and data leads are correctly fitted.
If they're ok then my guess would be the cost of a new drive would be a lot
easier to bear than the hassle of dealing with Tiny.

Something in Windows could be preventing the drive from spinning.
The easiest thing to try is booting off a bootable CD such
as your Windows installation CD. If it still won't spin,
then it's probably bad. You should also check it's data
cable and possibly try a different one.
