PLEASE HELP ! DVDRW isn't recognized.

I have a DVDRW dual. It's installed as MASTER DVDRW IDE1004 on the secondary
IDE channel, with my CD-ROM as the SLAVE. DMA is on. Drivers appear to be
up to date. I'm running XP Home Edition with SP2. When I put a DVD in the
drive (for read) it isn't recognized -- nothing happens, or it indicates the
tray is empty. I can read and write to CD's in this drive, but not DVDs.
Not sure of the mfg name -- it's not visible. What am I missing ? I'm not
sure what else I can check ??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most likely an application program such as Nero or Roxio is not installed.
(This includes some sort of DVD player.)
You should also see what happens when the slave CD Rom drive is removed.

Thanks for responding so quickly ! I have Roxio 7 installed. I tried using
the Roxio Player on a couple different DVDs -- didn't work. I recieve a
message stating "There is no media present in the selected drive or the media
format is not supported". I also tried a PC game install DVD (without Roxio)
-- Autorun is on, but no response and no messages. I keep thinking this is
something simple, but I don't see it. Thanks for your help !

Echo,

Your drive has different lasers for reading/writing CDs and
reading/writing DVDs. Seems that the laser for the DVD is bad. You may try
a cleaning disc to see if it's just dirty.

MadDog,
Thanks for the info ! I gave it a try with a cleaning disk, but to no avail
-- still get the "No media present ..." message. Thanks anyway -- I
appreciate it !
