Please Help - 3 problems/queries with XP

Good Evening Everyone

I hope you may help me.

How do I activate System Restore ? It doesn't load up when I select it from
Start Menu/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore ?

Is it safe to delete Service Pack 1 + 2 from Add/Remove programs if I am now
using Service Pack 3 ? I want to clear anything out I don't need.

And lastly (and I hope not too cheeky asking 3 questions at once)

What is the best way to save files from PC as I would like to transfer a lot
of music/photo's/info to new PC when I get one ?

I currently have Windows XP Home Edition 2002, Service Pack 3. I will more
than likely get new PC with Vista.

Regards,

Caroline x

Any help or advice much appreciated :)

I'll respond only to the photos etc question:
It depends on how much you have. Thumb drives are a good way to
transfer things as you can get a decent 8gig drive pretty cheap. Thumb
drives are great for travel.
If you don't have a backup scheme, an external USB enclosure and drive
would work great for both backup and transfer. Since drives are so
low, you can get 100's of Gigs now cheap. I like buying separate
drive / enclosure as I can make sure I get a dependable drive.

Cazzythom,

1) To activate System Restore go to Start/Settings/Control
Panel/System/Ststem Restore tab and make sure "Turn off System Restore is
unchecked".

2) It's probably OK to delete SP2. I'd leave SP1 though. But if you check in
the Windows folder, you would see that the service packs don't really take up
much space.

3) You could copy the files to CD or DVD to save them for later transfer to
a new PC
