Please check this ipconfig /all printout. Is it as it should be?

Win xp(media ed. Dell Dimension C521)

I have high speed internet with bellsouth.net
Lately, a few times a day, I will lose the internet
connection. When I click Support/Repair I end up with the
message that the repair could not be made because the dns
cache could not be flushed.

If I power off and then power on my modem the internet comes
back.

I ran: Start>Run>Cmd>ipconfig /all and what I got is listed
here: Please note that cox.net is listed. I no longer have
cox.net, I have been using bellsouth.net for a few months.

This is the first part of the printout from ipconfig /all
- - - - - - - -
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name ....DogsName
Primary Dns suffix......(this is blank - nothing)
Mode Type.......Unknown
IP Routing Enabled ....No
WINS Proxy Enabled ....No
DNS Suffix Search List ... pn.at.cox.net
- - - - - - - -
Is there something that needs to be changed here, and if so,
how do I change it? I'm pretty much a dunce on all that
ipconfig stuff.

Thank you

Where's the rest of the output from ipconfig /all? Did one the budding
Naval aviators drop something on your computer? Please copy/paste (do
not retype or munge):
http://digitalmediaphile.wordpress.com/ipconfig-all-how-to-get-text-output/

How do you connect to the Internet? Directly from your computer to your
modem or through a router?

Assuming that you connect through an Ethernet Local Area Connection,

Go to Network Connections, right-click Local Area Connection, and then
click Properties.
Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties.
In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box, click Advanced.
On the WINS tab, click Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP, and then click OK.
On the DNS tab, delete the entry about Cox from wherever it is (probably
the second box). OK your way out.

Then go here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919746/en-us

Hi Jack,

Well things COULD be worse. You could live in PepsiCola, FL. :>

Oh, and I have no idea how to answer your question. Sorry.

How do you connect to the Internet? Directly from your computer to your
modem or through a router?
I have a linksys router between the computer and the modem.
There is an ethernet cable from the computer to the router.
I also have a laptop thru wireless.
Assuming that you connect through an Ethernet Local Area Connection,

Go to Network Connections, right-click Local Area Connection, and then
click Properties. Check. Did that
Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties.
In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box, click Advanced.
On the WINS tab, click Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP, and then click OK. check all that.
On the DNS tab, delete the entry about Cox from wherever it is (probably
the second box). OK your way out.
The DNS tab has two boxes, both totally empty. Cox isn't
listed anywhere. Here is what is on the DNS tab;

1st item: Append primary and connection specific DNS
suffixes. This has a dot in the circle.

2nd item: Append parent suffixies of the primary DNS suffix.
This has a check in the little box.

3re item: Register this connection's address in DNS. This
has a check in the little box.

Check. I started the service and now the repair function
completes with no error message.

Comments: The printout from ipconfig /all remains
unchanged; it still has pn.at.cox.net as before.

Also my upload speed is quite low - less than 3000, it was
normally about double that before I started getting bumped
off the internet connection.

I'll wait for your answer before I do anything else. I
haven't called bellsouth tech support yet.

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.
