"Microsoft Windows 2000 has detected software that is not completely
installed on your computer. Windows 2000 Setup cannot continue until you
finish installing this software.

To finish the installation process for this software

Quit Windows 2000 Setup.
Log off of your computer and then log back on again.
After you log on, a program will start immediately; allow it to complete.
Restart Windows 2000 Setup."

i received this message after i was prompt to insert win2k cd after i log in
to my pc as stated that some files cannot be recognised by windows. I also
noticed that MSN messenger couldnt work there after. Is there something wrong
with windows or MSN? My pc is current on service pack 4.

Help
Thank You

See if this can help:

You should run a virus & spyware scan on your pc. You didn't say what
happened when you inserted the Windows 2000 cd in the machine but if it
copied files off the cd you should verify your service pack and hotfix
status as some files may have been reverted to older versions. You may
need to remove & reinstall MSN.

I would think this is some kind of Trojan or Virus activity, Start the PC in
Safe mode and check what is trying to start up.

You can use any of the freely available Start up programs to disable
programs or navigate to the "Run" section in the registry under

Local Machine \ Software \Microsoft\ Windows \Current version\ Run,, also
check the Run Once

This will list the apps that start when windows does, delete any that appear
suspicious, but be warned editing the registry
can cause the OS to fail if done incorrectly.

As I'm feeling generous heres the link to a free start up prog
