Plea for help (Another failed upgrade)

I never did get RC1 to upgrade to 5728 and am having the same problem with
RC2 x86

The upgrade gets to expanding files 21% and then shuts down with an error
message saying that it couldn't prepare the disk to boot into the next
phase.

Based on the error log, which I've included, it seems that it is to do with
the boot sector and access to it.

Vista is installed on it's own drive (a Sata) and it does not see the XP
drive as a system drive (no dual boot other than through the BIOS boot
menu). The original install of RC1went without any problem at all, and has
been running very well, and there's no boot up issues.

Can someone point me in a direction here, my previous plea went unanswered

Can you unplug the XP drive and try to install with just the Vista drive.

I tried that with RC1 and got the same resulting failure.
