Playing CD

Bob Kulp

After updating a number of programs, my CD player will not play DVD's
automatically. I have to enter Media Center and select play DVD. Obviously I
corrupted something. Also System Restore will not restore so I expect the
restore points are corrupted. My granddaughter is having a fit. Please help.

For the DVD...you may need to adjust your AutoPlay settings:

It's not unusual for other software to conflict with System Restore...
especially virus scanners. Might be worth try to do the System
Restore from Safe Mode:

Try opening Windows Media Player and sleeting 'Tools' > 'Options' then go to the
'File Types' tab and uncheck all the checkboxes next to each file type and click on
the 'Apply' button.

Then click on the 'Select All' button - to reverse the process - and click on the
'Apply' button again (then on [ok] to exit the Options).

Try opening DVDs

If this does not work, also try opening "Set Program Access and Defaults" on the
'Start Menu' and place the 'radio' button in the top 'Microsoft' option.

Then click on [ok] to exit.

Try opening DVDs again.

When I double click on the DVD icon I get a display of the files on the
disk.
The restore in Safe Mode cleared up my problem. I shall now try to find what
caused the problem.

Thanks for the suggestions.
