Places Bar

I want to customize the Places Bar. I have TweakUI, but it offers a
limited selection of places. Is there a registry hack that I can use
to add my own places?

Thank you.

A Google serach on Places Bar results in pages of information. Try it -

You can use TweakUI, Edit the registry or if XP Pro, use System Policy
Editor.

Edit the Places bar locations in Open Save As common dialog boxes

TweakUI

Places bar

Places bar
* Custom places bar

Places bar
[[This enables changing the location when a common dialog is opened. You can
use the default values or you can choose a custom location to open when a
common dialog box is opened.]]

Common Dialog Boxes
[[The common dialog boxes, such as the Save As dialog box, display the
places bar on the left side. These are shortcuts to common folders, which
make getting around much easier. By default, you see the History, Documents,
Desktop, Favorites, and My Network Places folders there. You can customize
the folders that appear in the places bar by using the Common Dialogs
category in Tweak UI.]]

For Group Policy if XP Pro.
Open Group Policy...
Start | Run | Type: gpedit.msc | Click OK |
Navigate to >>

Windows Explorer\Common Open File Dialog\

buttons specified by these values; if there is a PlacesBar subkey with no
values, an empty places bar will be displayed. Then set PlacesN to one of
the settings in shown in Table]]

Hello,

If you mean the "location", you can enter your own values in the dropdown
after selecting "Custom places bar".

If you mean to increase the number of icons, sorry I can't help.

Hi -- I wasn't very specific. It was only letting me have 3 places. I
finally got it to make 5 places. (Turned out the problem was operator
error).

Glad to hear it. TweakUI has a lot of other nifty things...

TweakUI for Windows XP - Tips

Tweak UI for Windows XP Guide

TweakUI PowerTips

All of those tips at the link above are part of TweakUI.

Tips

You can cycle through the tips with the Next Tip and Previous Tip buttons.
But, if you click the Save Tips button, you get Tweak UI Tips.txt which you
can save wherever, with all of the tips in a Notepad file.
