Picture Resizer Power Tool

Q

QSmith

I have been using the Picture Resizer powertool for over a year and it has
worked great. All of a sudden it has quit working. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled it several times with a new copy of the program downloaded from
Microsoft. The program menu shows up when I right click a picture and it
appears to work when you click OK but nothing happens. I have searched the
hard drive to see if it is putting the new picture in another directory but
it is not. It is simply not creating the new, resized picture. I would
appreciate any advice/help that anyone can offer.

QSmith,

See if this command fixes the problem. From Start, Run:

regsvr32 shimgvw.dll

Sorry to butt in...this got me to check mine...it doesn't work either, even
with that cmd fix.

I discovered by accident..if you right-click an image and select "Preview"
you can then resize that image.

You're welcome. That command-line sets the "image" type flag for image
files. Plus, fixes many other related issues.

Peter,

Tried registering the phototoys.dll? And, do you see the dialog box when you
click the "Resize..." context menu/

Peter

It's exactly like the above post, nothing appears. It does work, however if
I click "Preview" first and THEN try resize (on the preview image).
How do you register a dll?

Thanks.. I should have realised that... I did it, but I still have to go
to the preview to get the menu. I wonder if recent Microsoft Updates has
caused this? I'm up to date so have no idea which one, if it is that.

Peter,

Apart from file association settings, I don't know what's causing this. BTW,
which filetype is causing this, and is WPFV the default handler for that
type?

See if resetting the default handler to WPFV helps.

- Open Control Panel, Folder Options applet
- Click the File Types tab
- Scroll down and select the file type from the list.
- Click the Restore button at the bottom

I appreciate your help Ramesh. It's not too inconvenient I suppose to go
the preview route, but I was just lucky discovering that. It worked
directly from any image in my pics folder when I first downloaded it.

Hi Peter,

FWIW, I have WinXP Pro SP2 with all update and Resize Pictures appears
in the right click context menu.

P

Peter

Well, I'm not sure why it isn't working here. Maybe Ramesh will have a
brainwave. Thanks.

A long shot but, are there and 3ed party utilities installed to make
context menu changes?
