Phone numbers do not auto format

office 2003 - winxp

Normally, Outlook would auto format Contact phone numbers, i.e. (xxx)
xxx-xxxx. On my Sony Vaio laptop, Outlook does not. If I type ten digits
consecutively without space or hyphen it will remain as such, i.e. 1234567890.

Can you direct me to a solution?
