phone boots computer up

I had this problem before and have forgotten how to solve
it. When the computer is turned off and the phone rings,
the computer boots up. I do not use the phone tools or
the fax tools. Does anyone know how to turn these off
completely?

This looks very strange. Do you mean when you power off the computer
completely, on a phone ring it's booting up itself? Very surprising. I don't
think this will be the case exactly - can you please provide more details.

One thing you can try is to disable receiving of fax.

Open the Fax Services Management Console (Start | Programs | Accessories |
Communications | Fax | Fax Service Management). Select Devices, right-click
the modem in the right pane, select Properties | Disable Receive.

Or disable the fax service it-self by doing the following
Disable the Windows 2000 Fax Service
By default, when you install a modem in a Windows 2000-based computer, the
Fax Service is enabled. The service is a core component and you cannot
remove it You must disable the Windows 2000 Fax Service. To do so:

1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools,
and then click Services

2. Right-click Fax Service, and then click Properties.

3. Under Startup Type, click Disabled, and then click OK.

Very very suprising. Are you saying that when computer is powered off a
phone ring is bringing it back online? I am surprised, can you give more
details about the situation?
