Personal Temp folder

Hi all,

I found that every users login to the XP will create a user profile on under
c:\Documents and Settings\. There is a Temp directory under
that,C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temp. My question is what
does that temp folder do? Can we delete all of its content? What will it
affect if i delete all the content? My disk is running out of space, i need
to find out all the way to clean up my disk. Also the Temp directory is also
available in W2k as well, can i delete those as well?

Thanks

I'm not sure what they do, but thay must be there for some reason, as they
are under local settings. To check out what you can remove SAFELY and make
some diskspace, try using Disk Cleanup.
Just go to my computer, right click hard drive, go to properties, and click
disk cleanup. You can also do from Start\All Programs\Accesories\System
Tools\ Click Disk Cleanup.

Programs that run before you (or anyone) logs in use Windows\Temp. Programs you run use your profile temp. Generally anything that you are able to delete can be deleted. Some old setup programs may have files waiting to complete an installation on the next reboot.

So, reboot and delete all you can.

You can usually delete everything but files dated since your last
reboot. It stores temporary files created by programs you run,
downloaded files/programs.

I usually redirect all user temp folders to c:\temp (along with the
System temp) and have a script clean the folder upon each boot. To
change your temp path (User must be changed logging in to each one,
System only needs to be changed once). Right click My Computer, select
Properties. Click Advanced tab, Environment variables button and change
User & System temp.
