Personal settings lost

Windows did an automatic update last night, shut down my computer, and now I
can't access my personal settings. I get the following message:

System has attempted to load or restore a file into the registry but the
specified file is not in registry format.

Can you help????

Hi Deb,

Did you try a System Restore prior to the update?

What updates were installed last night? Go to Add/Remove programs and
remove those updates, then do a system restore to the restore point that was
made right before those updates were installed.

After that go to Windows Update, do a manual scan and install the updates
one at a time to see if the problem reoccurs and if so to isolate which
update is causing the problem.
