Personal Files

Hello,
By a mistake I've erased some folders from my personal profile (downloads,
documents, music...)
I have nothing important there, but now I want to use them again and...
Windows vista doesn't create them now!! even if I reboot the system.

What can I do? If I create new folders they doesn't have the same properties
(Vista doesn't recognize them as personal folders).

Is there any way to have all personal folders again?

You can fix this. If a Documents folder doesn't exist, type:

shell:personal [enter]

A new Documents folder will be created, with the hidden system
desktop.ini file inside it (which enables the special icon). The
default location for the folder is C:\Users\(Username)\Documents. This
works for Favorites and other system User folders such as Music.

You can type shell:personal using your Window key + R, and using Run, or in
the Start Search box of the Start Menu. However, this will only create the
Documents folder. If you tried to make your own Documents folder, using the
New >Folder method, under C:\Users\(Your Name), then you should delete that
first (don't move or rename it). But you mention "some folders". You will
have to type a command for each one you're messing. Do you remember the
ones that are missing?

Hello again,

yes, I remember the folders I've lost. Documents, music, downloads, video
and pictures.

So I must type in a "run" box "shell:personal". I've just type this, but
appears an error box. --> Windows couldn't find the file "shell".

Why?
My system is in Spanish, not english.

Thanks, thanks a lot. Only a little more.

Type (or Copy and Paste), without quotation marks,

shell:personal
shell:my music
shell:downloads
shell:my video
shell:my pictures

Press Enter after each command. When each folder pops up, check to be sure
that the special blue-green icon shows up in the address bar, and not the
generic manila one, just to check the status of the desktop.ini, and whether
or not it's correct.

Hello,

sorry, but it doesn't work. When I type shell:personal, winsows answer me
that there isn't that folder.

For example: I wrote shell:sendto, and the explorer opens to me the "send
to" folder.

Any other idea?

Thanks a lot.

First of all, did the other commands work and create the folders you wanted?
With the blue-green icons?

Since you system uses Spanish, which I don't have on mine, I might have to
see if the Spanish commands are different, as well as check to see if
something's missing. In the Registry Editor, go to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

Highlight Shell Folders, in the left-hand pane, and, on the menu, choose
File, and then Export. Save the file as ShellFolders.reg. Close Registry
Editor, and then right-click on ShellFolders.reg and choose Edit. Copy All
the contents written in Notepad, and Paste them into your reply to this

Yes, the entries in the registry, as you figured out, were pointing to a
path that didn't exist. Those "shell:*" commands should now work, and will
open your current shell folders, wherever they might be. Your Start Menu
buttons for Documents, Pictures, Music, etc. should now work, too. I'm glad
to hear things are working!

Hello,

sorry, but it doesn't work. When I type shell:personal, winsows
answer
me
that there isn't that folder.

For example: I wrote shell:sendto, and the explorer opens to me the
"send
to" folder.

Any other idea?

Thanks a lot.

Hello again,

yes, I remember the folders I've lost. Documents, music, downloads,
video
and pictures.

So I must type in a "run" box "shell:personal". I've just type
this,
but
appears an error box. --> Windows couldn't find the file "shell".

Why?
My system is in Spanish, not english.

Thanks, thanks a lot. Only a little more.

You can type shell:personal using your Window key + R, and using
Run,
or in
the Start Search box of the Start Menu. However, this will only
create
the
Documents folder. If you tried to make your own Documents folder,
using
the
New >Folder method, under C:\Users\(Your Name), then you should
delete
that
first (don't move or rename it). But you mention "some folders".
You
will
have to type a command for each one you're messing. Do you
remember
the
ones that are missing?

Hello,
where must I type it?

in a cms line?

Hello,
By a mistake I've erased some folders from my personal
profile
(downloads,
documents, music...)
I have nothing important there, but now I want to use them
again
and...
Windows vista doesn't create them now!! even if I reboot the
system.

What can I do? If I create new folders they doesn't have the
same
properties
(Vista doesn't recognize them as personal folders).

Is there any way to have all personal folders again?

You can fix this. If a Documents folder doesn't exist, type:

shell:personal [enter]

A new Documents folder will be created, with the hidden system
desktop.ini file inside it (which enables the special icon).
The
default location for the folder is
C:\Users\(Username)\Documents.
This
works for Favorites and other system User folders such as
Music.
