Persistent Preview pane in Outlook Express

For security reasons I always turn off the Preview pane in OE, but when I do
that on my new notebook running XP Pro, it turns it back on the next time I
start up OE. In fact, none of the layout changes are saved. XP Pro (SP2)
was pre installed on my machine, and I imported my address book and messages
from my previous notebook. I presume that a configuration file is missing
but I can't find it (Or is it a Registry setting?) Any suggestions?

It might be a security program blocking the Registry changes it needs to
make. A few of the programs now doing this are:
Ad-aware's Ad-Watch
McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware
Norton AV
Spyware Blaster
Spybot> Tools> IE Tweaks
Spybot- Teatimer
Spysweeper
Windows Defender
Zone Alarm (free) 6.5 Reported to be fixed in later versions.

In the case of Zone Alarm 6.5 it actually has to be uninstalled. Make sure
the Windows Firewall is turned on until you reinstall Zone Alarm.

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking with Networking and try the changes.

This may be a simpler fix than messing with Registry and other settings...

Place cursor at top of the From/Subject box (under toolbar) until it becomes
a double headed vertical arrow. Then hold right mouse button (or Notebook
equivalent) to drag it to bottom of screen, until all text is covered up.
No more preview...

Unsure of your exact security issues but do remember reading the NG post a
long time back about this that this should take care of any virus problems
associated with viewing text; I can't confirm this either way.

Spot on, Fsecure must have been blocking it - I unloaded it, made the changes
to the OE layout, restarted OE - Voila, changes OK. reloaded Fsecure :
Thanks.
