Permissions for a file

I use ScanSoft to scan documents on my desktop machine. Then from my laptop
I move it over to my laptop through my home network. Most of the time this
all works fine. Sometimes when the scan is completed I can not move it to
the laptop and I have determined that the security permissions are not set
properly. If I go into the file properties and set "everyone" to have all
permissions then it works fine.

I don't undersyand why it works perfectly (without me changing any
permissions) sometimes and not others. I would appreciate any suggestions to
make this work properly all the time.
