Performance Monitor - modem (dial-up) bytes received / sec graphed

I'm new to Windows XP but reasonably knowlegable about Win98 SE where
I frequently ran System Monitor to graph modem bytes received /
second. Nice, clean graph. No muss no fuss.

I recently got a new machine with XP home on it - in TaskManager I can
see the graph of Network Utilization under the Network tab, and can
see bytes received per interval by "adding" that column - apparently
there is no way to show the bytes received in a graph.

In Performance Monitor I can put the Bytes Total/sec counter from the
Network Interface Performance Object in to show as a graph but the
numbers don't make sense - for instance, doing a download speed test,
TaskManager shows 4500 - 5000 bytes/second whereas Performance Monitor
shows 87 - 115 (scale set to 1). At the same time, the Segments/sec
counter of the TCP Performance object (scale set to 10) shows about
half of what the Bytes Total/sec was showing.

All I want to do is be able to monitor in graph form, the modem
receive rate. If Performance Monitor and TaskManager won't do this,
can I install Win98 SE's Sysmon and run it successfully on my XP
system? If so, how do I get it installed from my Win98 Install disk?

No, Windows XP is a 32-bit operating system and Windows 98 is a
16-bit operating system. Windows 98 system files are not compatible
with Windows XP.
