Pentax EI-100 not downloading pictures

My Pentax EI-100 will not connect with my computer successfully. The steps
to download photos are: Open "My Computer," connect USB cable to computer,
turn on camera and set to PC, and then connect the other end of the cable to
the camera. Within 90 seconds or so an icon labeled "removable disc" is
supposed to appear. I have followed the instruction exactly ... but the icon
always fails to appear - even after several minutes.

I know the problem is not the camera because it works just fine on my
husband's computer that is using a later edition of Windows. What could the
problem be? The instructions say that the driver should be loaded on Windows
XP already - though when looking through the device manager and pretending to
install a camera - no pentax camera drivers are there.

I have been trying to get this camera to work on my computer for a couple of
years now ... please help me.

I appreciate any information you have.

If it's a couple of years old, the next step would be to check the Pentax
site for updated XP compatible drivers and software.

Also, you might want to look into a memory card reader, they aren't very
expensive, they usually transfer files faster than a direct camera PC
connection and usually don't have the same compatibility issues.
