What's best,
www.pdf995.com or www.602pdf.com
or is there an even better freeware pdf creator iyho

At least the following free 'packaged' solutions also exist:

CutePDF Printer
http://www.acrosoftware.com/
PDFCreator
http://sector7g.wurzel6-webdesign.de/pdfcreator/index_en.htm
PrimoPDF
http://www.primopdf.com/

Besides those, it is also possible to to print from application with
PostScript -printer driver to .ps -PostScript file and then open it
to GSview / AFPL Ghostscript combination, which enables to use more
refined opimisations for resulting PDF file creation. The settings
can be selected from GSview menu, or by editing settings files. The
AFPL Ghostscript is more advanced than GNU Ghostcript, which some
packaged solutions have mostly used as a part of the package.

I have cutePDF in use,.. good for simple lay-out,.. not for fine tuned
pages.

Will check the others... thanks for the detailed advice.

Have you concluded that any one is superior? Am interested. Have
used Cute, but find that it doesn't always output text as true PDF
text. I really want that feature, and tighter PDFs.. Cute can
generate pretty fat PDFs at times.

fine for simple text but once you transform a lay-outed work into
pdf... neither of em do a perfect job... but on the other hand... i've
never tested Open Office... and perhaps that's a solution...
