PC won't start up

I am using a home built PC, windows pro xp, KM2M (MS-6738)v1.X Micro ATX mainboard. I have many weird things happening to my PC. I just recently got this new motherboard 2 weeks ago and it has been working very well up until yesterday. I uninstalled 2 programs that I was not using from the add and remove programs and then my system just shut down with no warning, I then proceeded to run a system scam with Norton Antivirus 2003 to make sure I didn't have any viruses, it proceeded to start scanning then came up with a message that norton go not go any further and to click on the knowledge base link which I proceeded to do and then my system shutdown again. When I went to restart it I got my usual start up beep then all of a sudden I got 2 more long rough sounding beeps and then nothing. Finally I got the system to start and when I did my PC came up with found new hardware. Where that came from is beyond me as I did not install any new hardware at all. All I was able to catch from it before it shut down again was the hardware was something to do with audio. After that I could not start my pc. The power light comes on, I could hear the disk trying to start up and then nothing just a black screen. Nothing comes up on the screen at all and I cannot even start in safe mode. Could someone please give me some insight on this? Is this a windows xp or a hardware issue? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read my long post!

Shar, did you do a Repair Install after you replaced the Motherboard? If
not, give it a try.

Thank you Rich for your quick reply. I got a fellow here in town who works on PC's to replace the motherboard and he did a complete re-install of WindowsXP. Do you think I should still try the repair install? I'm by no means that great at fixing PC problems and am often afraid to try new things. It's great having people like you to help us people that don't know that much about PC's. Greatly appreciated!

Google for {your bios}+beep+code

With Intel+beep+code there are 19,000 hits and seemingly two beeps refer to
a memory problem.

Your milage may vary.

Shar, I would call the guy who did the installation of the Motherboard.
Tell him about the 2 beeps. That
could be a hardware failure. Defective Motherboard maybe or just something
loose or fully connected.

Okay thank you once again Rich for your help. I will give him a call and see what he has to say. Thing is this is my third motherboard replacement in 2 years the other two fried. Maybe I should just go to another repair guy as this is the guy that built my PC for me. Thanks and have a great night.

Hi Rich, just thought I'd let you know that I tried to start up my problem PC. It started up just fine, the new hardware that was found is the multimedia audio controller but it would not let me install it. Also in my device manager under the mice and other pointing devices I have a yellow question mark on my mouse that I'm using and it says that it's not working properly yet I can use the mouse with no problem. Tried to update driver and it says that the driver is up to date. Still have yellow ? mark. Also under other devices there is a yellow ? mark on this Multimedia audio Controller. System still shuts down though. Got it to run 3 times by restarting it and now again I have nothing. Now I'm wondering could these yellow ? marks cause my PC from shutting down like that? I also managed to download the critical update in Windows before my PC shut down. Would you have any idea why this is happening? Why does the PC start sometimes and then other times it won't? Your advice would be greatly appreciated once more.

I'm wondering if it's possible that I may have a virus. I can only get so far scanning with Norton and then it shuts down on me. So how can I tell if I have one?

Thank you Kelly for all your info. Very informative. If I can get my PC to stay running long enough I will run all that you have mentioned. Your help is greatly appreciated. Have a nice day!
