PC slow down with Norton Internet Security

Hello Fellow members of this group,

I had reinstalled w2k in my PC three times in the last four weeks, and
now i'm planning to do it once more this weekend... of course I'm currently
a expert doing so :)
My problem is that my PC slows down dramatically in a random basis, some
things discarded:

* physical memory problems
* virus or spyware programs
* OS not upgraded

What I do suspect:

* Physical hard disk
* Software incompatibility between Norton Internet Security 2005
and W2K. Why?, because at shut down my pc pops up a window with the message
"ccapp.exe not responding" and ccapp.exe is a main application of the Norton
suite.

My configuration:

* Pentium III 1,2 over a Intel 815EGEW motherboard
* 256 Kingston DIMM ram
* 3 HD's: 40 GB for master
30 GB for primary slave
8 GB for secondary slave
* W2K professional edition, sp4, and fully updated

Does anyone of has some idea on how to look for what the problem is?
Thanks in advance...

Roberto

If you suspect hd, go to hd manu.web site and download their disk checking
utility.
I assume you've run www.memtest.org ?
Assuming your not connected don't install NIS, and check, or if connected
install Zonalarm and check.
Does 'running processess' indicate anything useing CPU? - when slow -

Hello DL,

Thanks for your attention.
I will look for the web site you mention.
The old memories were replaced by a new couple of Kingston tested DIMM's.
The old memories that were installed started to fail with a "SPD not
detected" at MB start up. SPD is a feature from Intel MB's and they said
that sometimes if memories are not SPD compliant the system may fail.
One more issue I've looked at is the task manager, which shows very light
operation, I've tried with perfmon and mmc but still I don't know how to use
them.
At last, I thanks for the John Thomas' response, one of the first sites I
explored was the symantec one, and there is an issue reported about the
ccapp.exe error message at shut down, but no effective solution.
Today morning I decided to uninstall the Norton suite and test the
performance again, of course my pc will be unwired when testing.
I suspect some Norton incompatibilities because when I tried to reinstall it
it was not possible with windows and I needed two more SW tools from
Symantec in order to remove the suite completely.
Up to this time I have no news because I had to leave the PC alone because
the uninstalling process was taking too long.
I hope to write some more today evening or tomorrow.
Have a nice weekend.
All the best...

Roberto
