PC Security Shield 2008

Do any of you use PC Security Shield 2008? This antivirus program has a
file called fssm32.exe that is the biggest memory hog in history when a
scan is being performed. This slows my computer to a crawl. When I do a
ctr-alt-del, I observe that this file is using over 150,000k memory.
Tech support at the company that sells this product is about as
worthless as talking to a tree.

winXp, Firefox, PC Security Shield 2008.

IMO, remove it from your os - cut your loss and install good-quality

"...Windows Defender did excel in behavior-based protection, which detects
changes to key areas of the system without having to know anything about
the actual threat."

In the kindest terms possible, perhaps it's time you cut your losses and
looked to other applications for your malware protection and stop
dealing with one whose problem you aptly described.

You will find a wealth of recommendations in the threads of the malware
newsgroups and many of those apps will be free. I /would/ try to avoid
security suites as a whole.

Keep this thread going with what you've derived from other posts. You
need not go much further backwards over 3 to 4 months. You will soon be
able to judge whose posts you respect.

Best wishes to you.
