Hello,

I have an Asus Mainboard and I have not had any problems until now. I
turn the machine on and it powers up for a total of 3 seconds if that.
I moved the board to another machine thinking maybe the switch went bad
and it worked for 3 hours. Then when I exited the game I play it shut
It self down anand when I try to restart it does the same thing it was
doing on the other case. Could the board be bad? I have a Nvida 256 oc
video card in there could It be hogging all the power?
I have tried a 450W PS and a 400W PS and the same thing happens. Why
would It work for 3 hours then shut down? Also I tried allowing it to
cool down incase that was the problem but again this morning It powers
up for about 3 seconds or less. Anyone have any suggestions I would
gladly appreciate them.....

check the heatsink and make sure it is seated correctly..also make sure that
at least a speed sensor from the heatsink fan is plugged into the M/B

I had a similar problems some weeks ago with a P5AD2 Deluxe. It works
two days but it shut down by itself after I play half life2. After that,
when I pressed the power button the fan were working 3 seconds and
nothing after that. I used a 450w power supply (cheap). I changed the
power suply for a "good" 330w (Antec truepower)and no problem since that.

I hope this help!

That sounds like the motherboard is detecting the CPU is overheating and
shutting down to prevent damage.

Most likely culprit is the CPU cooling system - have you fitted the
heatsink/fan and removed it? If so, then you've probably destroyed the
heatsink compound which is vital for effecient transfer of heat from the CPU
to the heatsink/fan. You can buy more compound online for a few pounds.
Comes with a little square and scraper to allow you to make a new square of
compound.

Same thing happened with our dual AMD MP Gigabyte board after the heatsinks
were removed.

Cheers, Rob.
