PC in rebooting cycle

shervin

I'm in a tech support environment and I've received
multiple tickets today, stating that users' workstations
are stuck in rebooting cycles - I haven't seen this
problem in any of the virus descriptions yet.

Anyway, I would appreciate any help - a simple resolution
would be great!!!

Thanks!

Shervin.

Shervin,

I work in a similar environment and have encountered these
problems as the result of the Blaster or Lovesan worm.

99% of my desktops are W2K and run as restricted users.
These had hiccups as a result of the worm but a reboot
cured the problem until an attempt was made to re-infect
them. I have a very limited number of desktops on which
the users have Administrator privileges but these were not
infected as far as I know (possibly pure luck).

Where I encountered the reboot problem was with my XP
laptops which all have Administrator privileges and often
operate outside of our firewall. In each case the problem
was resolved by installing the relevant Microsoft Hotfix
and then removing the worm with a removal tool from one of
the Anti-virus companies.

Hope this gives you a few clues.

regards,

Jack.
